I’ve been working with women and families in the Northeast for over 12 years now. I am committed to bringing effective, compassionate care that really makes a difference to women and their families.
My experience and qualifications include:
*MuTu Pro™. A MuTu Pro is certified to teach MuTu System within classes or one-to-one sessions. Personally trained by Wendy Powell, MuTu Pros are an incredible resource of specialist professionals – certified Personal Trainers, Physical Therapists, Yoga and Pilates Instructors, Doulas and Physiotherapists – who will guide you through the MuTu exercises so vital for re-building your core.
*Mizan Therapist. Mizan Therapy is hands-on healing (massage) for women’s reproductive health. Mizan Therapy is grounded in traditional women’s reproductive health practices. It helps to balance women’s cycles (including painful or irregular cycles, excess bleeding, etc.) and transitions (perimenopause, menopause). Many women find it a positive support to fertility (whether trying to conceive naturally or with medical assistance including IVF), to healthy pregnancy, to birth preparation, and to postnatal recovery. You can find out more about Mizan Therapy here.
*I am a certified Birth and Postnatal Doula (Paramana Doula, Childbirth International). I was recognised by Doula UK in April 2010. I am not currently working as a birth doula (due to childcare issues) but I am offering both antenatal and postnatal support.
As part of my commitment to ongoing professional development, I am currenly re-certifying as a Postnatal Doula with Childbirth International.
*Breastfeeding Counsellor. I have 10 years experience as a volunteer breastfeeding counsellor with La Leche League in County Durham. I led mother-to-mother support groups for pregnant and breastfeeding women, provided telephone, email, and in person support, and helped facilitate training for new volunteers. I retired from this role in January 2016.
As part of my commitment to on-going professional development, I am currently re-certifying as a private breastfeeding counsellor with Childbirth International. I offer private sessions for debriefing of past experiences, breasteeding education, and in-person support.
*Childbirth Educator I am a certified Childbirth Educator with Childbirth International, and have completed continuing professional development courses with Birthing From Within. I specialise in working privately with women and couples who are looking to clear patterns of fear or past trauma prior to giving birth, and who are interested in fully inhabiting the deep spiritual and personal implications of the birth journey.
*Intuitive Energy Healer / Shamanic Practitioner I began my journey with energy medicine in 2004 when I sought out Reiki during my first pregnancy. I wasn’t expecting to feel much, but to my surprise, it really worked! Subsequently, in 2009, I began my training in Reiki with Reiki Evolution and used Reiki with my birth doula clients to great postiive effect – clients inexplicably experienced better births, swifter recovery, less impact from drugs used in labour.
I found Shamanic Healing in 2011 when I was looking for more effective techniques for healing my own childhood trauma. For me, the experiencing soul retrieval brought deeper healing and renewal of self than I would have believed possible, leading me to study first Intutive Energy Healing, then Shamanic Healing and Northern Shamanism. I completed my Shamanic Practitioner certification with Kay Gillard and Magin Rose of Starfire Alchemy in January 2014.
Shamanic healing is a powerful practice that works with energetic patterns to remove blocks and restore a sense of wholeness to the self. Especially effective in cases of trauma or deep challenge, this healing practice combines well with other healing modalities and professional support.
*I am a former Trainer for Childbirth International (Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator programmes).
*I pursued additional training in (in addition to Shamanic Healing techniques for healing trauma, I’ve studied with Sheila Kitzinger / Birth Crisis and Pam England of Birthing from Within / Birth Story Listening). I have special experience of working with women who face deeper physical and emotional challenges on their journeys to motherhood (pregnancy after trauma, loss, or abuse; postnatal recovery following a difficult or traumatic birth experience; recovery/pregnancy after loss).
In 2013, I was awarded funding by Durham County Council and the Department of Health to run a series of healing workshops for women on challenges in birth and motherhood (trauma, loss, and the ‘wounds of motherhood’).
I am trained in and experienced with, and insured for all modalities I work with in my client sessions, group work, and workshops. All of my practice works well alongside counseling and mainstream medical care. (I am not a medical practitioner, nor do I offer medical diagnosis or treatment. See full legal disclaimer here).
